I think others misunderstand your question, and while I do not have time ot answer completely, I think I can clarify.

I think you are looking for a listing of all aircraft that have been given a fighter (F) designation, including prototypes, like this:

F-4 Phantom II

F-5 Freedom Fighter / F-5E and F-5F Tiger II

and so on, including prototypes

F-16 Fighting Falcon

F-17 Cobra (actually the YF-17)

F/A-18 Hornet

There are some complications: the designation series was restarted in 1962 to include Naval aircraft, so prior to that the Air Force fighters were all the way up to the 110's, and the Navy fighters used a different system that included the manufacturer. An F4F was a WWII Wildcat, while the F4H was the Phantom II. In addition, "F"'s used to be "P" (Pursuit), so many of the planes that were active at and immediately after the end of WWII were re-designated. For Example the P-80 became the F-80.

If you are looking for every fighter design including the "P"'s, the Pre 1962 Navy "F"s, it''s hundreds of aircraft models. Feel free to Google and build your list.

The F-22 is greater nimble, can fly at bigger altitudes & is faster. This correlates to its pastime as an Air Superiority fighter (blowing up different airplane). The F-35s replaced into designed as an air-to-floor wrestle, reconnaisance & suppression of air protection (blowing up SAM sites) & has greater perfect avionics kit. the two planes would properly be configured to cope with the others function (basically no longer to boot). the unique advantage of the F-35 nonetheless replaced into its "fee". you would be able to desire to just about purchase 2 F-35s for the fee of a single F-22. provided that the F-35 replaced into able to defeating the present crop of air superiority warring parties the different government had (which includes the F-15), there replaced right into a query of why can we desire the F-22? Now that Russia finally have been given around to construction its new 5th technology of warring parties, we would desire to work out greater pastime interior the F-22 (nonetheless I think of the F-35 will win out).

The YF-23 was the Northrop's entry into the Air Force's Advanced Tactical Fighter competition won by the Lockheed Martin YF-22. Had it gone into service, it would have been designated F-23.
