any pilot aboard?

im 16, n i wanna be a pilot. but most of my friends says "stop dreaming! u're not gonna make it". i think they look down on me bcause im a girl.. is it too hard to be a pilot? especially 4 cute girl like me, at young age?

It's not impossible, you can do it. There are things that you need to keep in mind though. It's expensive and time consuming. The best thing to do is to go to your local airport and take a "discovery ride" with an instructor. You can ask about what's required to become and pilot, how long it will take and how much it will cost. The other way to do it is to study hard while you're in high school and go into the military. You can get all the licenses and certificates you need and it won't cost you anything. Plus when you get out of school you automatically have a great job. Good luck to you. I'm a pilot and female.

It's not "hard" to be a pilot, the actual flying becomes second nature, like driving a car once you learn....the hardest part about flying is all the the knowledge you need to memorize...but I wouldn't say that it is hard, you just need to study.



Don't let anyone every tell you can't do something. Aviation is, or was primarily a male dominated career, the majority of pilots are still male, but there are alot of female pilots. Don't let "the boys" intimidate you...I was intimidated when I first started my training....but you get over it real quick...

I am a pilot, & most of my initial training was from a female instructor. Being a girl is in no way a reason why you cannot be a pilot. You are now at an elligible age to start flight training today. There are some other requirements, such as passing an aviation medical exam, & written & oral tests, but if you have the drive & desire to become a pilot, then YOU CAN DO IT.

Of those others who are telling you you can't, how many of them ARE pilots. Which one of them is qualified to tell you if you can become a pilot or not.

I certainly hope that you won't let others discourage you, so keep on dreaming, & do everything you can to make your dreams come true.

Its a very very time consuming thing to get your ratings and it dose cost a lot of money. Being a girl you are in the low percentage of women in aviation. Take a discovery flight somewhere and find out if you love it or you hate it. Being a pilot isn't just jumping in the aircraft and going for it. For each rating you must pass a written exam, oral exam and a flight test. There are a lot of scholarships out there for females who want to fly. The 99's is a group of female pilots(Women in aviation). Don't let your friends tell you what you can and can't do. You can do anything if you set your mind to it. It takes a lot of love of flying to do this though. If you do decide to go with it be sure you just don't like it but you LOVE it. I started flying when I was 20 and I hold my private and instrument rating. I'm working on my commercial right now. Since your still young try to find a 141 or a part 61 approved school to take you up. It normally costs about 60 dollars to go up for a discovery flight. Flying a plane is very easy. In fact, if you can drive a manual transmission car, you can easily fly a plane. Being a pilot, however is a little bit harder. It takes a level of committment and maturity that is seldom seen in learning to drive.



As for being you, cute and female, none of those things should detriment you in your quest to become a pilot. In the US, you can fly solo at 16, and get your license at 17.



If you are really interested, go to www.beapilot.com where you can get a coupn for a reduced price flight lesson. Then use the webist to find a flight school near you and take an introductory flight lesson. It usually lasts about a half hour, and you get to fly the plane yourself. Most people say that this flight was the deciding factor in them wanting or not wanting to learn to fly.



As a flight instructor, I have seen firsthand the differences in male and female pilots. I have to say that females are usually more detail oriented, and thus can usually learn the basic material faster than men can who just like to fly for the sake of flying.

I was a flight attendant for a major airline for many years. Yes, you absolutely can make it. We had several female pilots working for us, and they were very good. There is no distinction between men or women when it comes to this job. I say go for it. You have to put in the schooling and flight hours, the sooner you start, the sooner you will achieve your dream.
