2010-05-18 19:25:15 UTC
So Im 16 an just got my driving license while I was taking my license test I thought I would finally start my career as a pilot since I was dreaming about it when I was 5.
I went through several sites did Google & Bing search, there is always the same answers and same solutions, I have to;
* Pass a basic medical examination.
* Receive the required amount of instruction from a Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI).
* Pass a written examination (100 multiple-choice questions).
* Pass a "checkride" (aircraft equivalent of a driving test) given by an FAA-approved examiner.

But what I want to know is when should I get started, what kinda collage should I attend, what kind of a degree do I need, do I have to be a US citizen ( ill be one when im 18) how long is it going to take, what kind of a budget do i need,do I have to be a straight A student, do I have to know mathematics and other stuff just like I know my name, what kind of a school schedule do i have to take and ect.
Im willing to risk everything and work my as* up

1. pay for flying lessons.. get your pilots license.

2. hire on as pilot with smaller outfits.. that are perfect for newbies..

=======

For college study whatever you want to.

There are degrees in aviation like;

Aerospace engineer.. get that degree and things will go in your favor big time.

The military needs pilots left and right.. especially those with 4 year degrees. Maybe they would pay for your college and training?

Does this help any?

1) get your private pilot's license

2) go to college, but dont get an aviation degree. wait to get your other licenses until after college

3) after college, go and get your instrument, multi engine, and commercial pilot licenses.

college- doesnt really matter what kind you attend, as the previous person said, aerospace engineering would be a good one

citizen- depends on the flight school, but a lot of the time no

budget- for your private pilots license, around 9000 us dollars, for all of your other licenses, around 50,000 dollars.

grades- im an all a and b student

math- not necessarily, just as long as you know basic math. if you are bad at it you may want to check out a major for college other than aerospace engineering.

I hope that this helps!!!

There are several ways to do this. But first ask yourself if its something you really want, and be very very nice to your parents, as they will have to co-sign for all your student loans to be able to pay for it. There are 3 main paths to become a Commerical Pilot. 1.) Military- This is the hardest way, but the cheapest, as they pay for all the training. To qualify, you have to be selected, have a 4yr degree (any degree, but perferable one in Aviation, Engineering, Physics). To qualify, you have to complete OCS, and submit a package, be selected by a board, and successfully pass all the physical requirements, and have a I belive a 6yr commitment. 2.) Aviation Collegiate Program- Go to an accredited Flight school that provides training and major in Avaition. This is 4yr B.S. Degree, but very expensive. It will cost around 75k all said and done with student loans for school and training. 3.) Local FBO- Your local airport will have an FBO that will train you to fly an airplane privately. This is cheaper (by comparsison to the Aviatoin Collegiate programs), but still will not be cheap. To be a succesful candiate for Commerical Airlines, you will need at a minimum a 4yr degree (in anything), a Multi-Engine / Single Engine Commerical Instruemnt Rating and about 1500hrs for any entry level regional job that pays very low.
