I would never buy an aircraft just too fly it. That's what they have lease plans for. The truely rich don't buy aircraft. Thet are a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere or invested. Just lease it and write it off on your taxes.

Now; if I had Millions and wanted a toy, then I would pick this one. A 1930's SPARTAN EXECUTIVE.

Civilian Aircraft, for long travel it would have to be the Gulfstream G650. It can fly at .85 Mach and has the same Range as a 747-400 , it also has more luxuries than any Lear Jet.

For Civilian Smaller Jumps it would be a King Air 350. Just because of how Pilots claim it is a very easy to fly, it's safety record, and it's Range.

For Military Aircraft (Prop), I would buy either a F4U Corsair, or a P-51D Mustang, or perhaps a Messerschmidt 109.

For Military Jet's, well most are not allowed to be purchased and owned, but if I could, I would own a F-15 C (Very Similar to E Model but a single seater).

I also wouldn't mind owning an F-4 Phantom (New Advanced Version), or an A-4 Sky Hawk, or an F-86 Saber.

This is a good question, because I'm split between what would be practical and what would be a pure toy. To Z and others who have pointed out the realities, I do agree with you, but I'm answering from the angle that the payout was so big that money was completely no object and I happened to invest in a cure for AIDS which turned out to be successful, thus ensuring permanent massive income. Something like that.

OK, onto the disassembly. For practicality, I'd probably buy a HondaJet -- I like the design ethos and if I remember correctly, its MTOW is sufficiently low for single-pilot operation. I would then probably put it on a lease scheme to pay for itself somewhat, as well as use it to make money as a corporate pilot complete with aircraft. A pipe dream, I know, but that is how I interpret this exercise.

From 'pure toy' angle, it'd be a Su-34 stripped of weapons systems. Fast, long-range, capable of major payload. I might just throw in a convenient tanker fleet there as well. ^_^

a couple a million dollars just one time would not be enough, once you consider operating costs, to support owning a learjet 45a. You would have to insure that that money worked for you first, then think of buying such a plane. As for me...Supermarine Spitfire Mk 22
?

Pitts Special, Piper Cub, Bell Jet Ranger, Learjet, Tiger Moth, ehhh.... How many millions?

I would buy a Diamond Twinstar , and a Piper Arrow. Maybe a Piper Seneca.

BRAND NEW!!!

'

Not even speaking of how well these babies will be maintened.

1.All oil on every engine changed every 20 hours.

2.Both aircraft stored in a heated hanger.

3.I would get a Thunder Black Edition II overhaul , and those are the best engines $$ can buy.

4.My mechanic would smile away every time he saw me ;)

I presume you would be able to afford the hangarage, the insurance and the exponentially rising costs of maintenance, fuel and whatever repairs come with aircraft ownership.

I've never owned a lear jet but I have owned a few aircraft and so can attests to the fact that no matter how much money you have, an airplane will cost you all you've got.

If I won the lottery, I would put it in the bank and help my children with their post-secondary education.

i could put down something like an F9F panther, or other war bird, but the reality is that i would end up with something like a fairly new cessna 172. even with $50 million in the bank, the reality is that i wouldnt get enough hours to keep the required certification current.

Me262 Stormbird replica. They have dual seats, so you can take someone up, but also convert back into single-seat for airshows.

Failing that, one of the replica Fw190A-5s that a German company builds-the ferry flight back to the states from D-land would be an excellent trip..

id buy my own fleet of cessna 172s and a couple beechcraft barons ... and then get me a house on a few thousand acres (maybe 10,000 or more) acres and put me a nice paved landing strip on the property, have it inspected and certified to operate, then i'd start my own flight school right from my back yard!

that would be the high life lol

And that millions would be sucked up in no time. Aircraft checks, fuel, crew, etc. are so costly with biz jets.

I'd get a nice Cirrus SR22 that I could fly myself.
