Personally never heard the wording "staging area" -

With Pan American at JFK, Hangar 11, the ramp in front of the hangar -

Airplanes were "parked" there when not docked at the Terminal (Worldport) -

Maintenance would taxi airplanes from that ramp to the terminal -

Docking airplane at Worldport were to board passengers -

I guess this ramp could be called a "staging area" -

From what I understand, it's the location the equipment is assembled before being used.

But, I have heard of situations where airports have been used as staging areas for medical treatment after natural disasters or accidents.

that's from military.. staging area is where you assemble the troops and cargo in chalks for airlift.

in civilian life, the dutyfree zone and adjacent pax lounges serve as "staging area"
