Yes, there were bombers that were developed before the

B-52 but after the B-29. There are also bombers with designations between B-29 and B-52. The designations given to bombers does not necessarily reflect the order they were developed in. For example, the B-2 is newer than the B-29 or the B-52. There have been many other out-of-sequence designations, and they have skipped many numbers, too. And not all the B-* bombers are/were built by the same company. They have been built be several different companies, and the Air Force assigns a designation. Bombers are given B-* designations.

Yes, there was the B-50, a special B-29, then the B-36, a massive swept wing bomber with 6 props and several jet engines, then there was the B-45, a small 4 engine tactical bomber, then there was the B-47, which was like a small B-52 with 6 engines, then there was the B-58 hustler, a mach 2 capable bomber, and there was the B-57 canberra, a twin engine, and then there was the B-66, a twin engine navy jet bomber.

The B29 was the Enola Gay now on display at the Dulles Air Museum a division of the National Air Space Museum. The Pilot Tibbits just passed away last year. Visit the DC Air Museum on line.



The B52 came about in the Early 50s as a 8 engine long distance high altitude bomber.

Used in Viet Nam and in use yet today all of the fleet are for the most part over 60 years old.

And most of them are still flying a few are in Arizona awaiting the scrap pile.

JM, the last B52s that were built were built in the early 60s, so less than 50 years old. These are the ones that are used today, the H models, which was the last model built. I think NASA is still using an "B" model, which would be about 60 years old, and has less hours than any other B52 due to it's use in flight test (air dropping things like the X15 and X43)



UPDATE I just checked, they retired the B52B from NASA in 2004, replaced with an "H" model.

Absolutely... Many that were experimental / prototypes, and several that entered production. The period between 1945 and 1969 saw incredibly RAPID changes in technology, therefore production aircraft fielded by the USAF and USN.

I even have by no skill heard of this. because nuclear tech became into purely being created today, there became into no extra beneficial bomb to make. and because they have been so super the B52 did no longer particularly have area for them. the 2nd aim, Nagasaki, became into chosen because of the fact their unique aim became into too cloudy or somethin.
