They could get across the Atlantic (London to New York) in three hours, however they were noisey on take off and not very big inside.

Let me throw this one at ya. The NASA X-43 is and experimental aircraft design that has already been recorded at speeds near (and I think past) mach 5. It is used to test the ram and scram type engines for future earth and space travel. It travels so fast that they don't bother to slow the test planes down, they just let the unmanned planes burn up.
